J'Equine Sport, Inc. and EBPM are pleased to be part of the WHIA family and help host the first Canadian WHIA conference.

My first encounter with Catherine Masters at Global WHIA, back in November 2010 was the foundation for a new found friendship and mentor. Catherine and I share many of the same beliefs in fostering and growing a business: "professional women in the horse industry helping one another across Canada and globally". What a novel if not obvious idea: women helping women to build success in their respective businesses and viewing their competition as a means to learn.

The WHIA networking conferences are designed to encourage networking. I hope you have enjoyed the many guest speakers plus the extras we had in store for you. I had a lot of fun putting it all together. Learning, getting connected and building solid relationships is what we are all about at the WHIA conference.

I have truly enjoyed talking to all the new and existing WHIA members and look forward to our quarterly chapter meetings. Please make sure you are on my list so that I can contact you about or meetings. (send e-mail with WHIA chapter in subject line).

FIRST CANADIAN WHIA CONFERENCE WAS A HUGE SUCCESS

I am delighted with the turnout and presentation of our first Canadian WHIA Conference this past weekend.

I would like to personally thank all the speakers who came to the conference. Each one of them was handpicked by me for their quality, professionalism and passion for the equine industry. I succeeded in landing exceptional speakers who reached out to captivate our members, a good start to "Making 2011 The Best Year Ever" my theme for the conference.

The night before the conference the speakers and exhibitors were invited to a “get together” with drinks and appetizers, compliments of J’Equine Sport. This gathering as well as the morning yoga and mini luncheon fashion show were little extras done by J’Equine Sport, intended to bond the group.

The food and service provided at the Crowne Hotel in Toronto were exceptional and needed little direction.

It was an intense couple of days with much information and ideas exchanged. It didn’t take much effort to encourage people to network and develop new friendships, exactly what Catherine Masters at Global WHIA intended.

EBPM (Equine Business Professional Members) certificates were presented to the newest members which included: WHIA Global; Equine Wellness Magazine; Richvale Saddlery; Performance Sales International (P.S.I.); Just Add Horses; Christilot Boylen and Udo Lange and our newest member, Sutherland-Chan School and Teaching Clinic who offers an equine massage elective in addition to their well established Massage Therapy Diploma Program. Businesses across the board are viewing the EBPM accreditation program as prestigious and necessary to establishing credibility in the equine business sector. It takes about five days to complete the verification and referral requirement of the EBPM application.

A big thanks to John Allan of Redstone Media who was an MC extraordinaire, to Nanette Levin, WHIA global representative and Kathryn Hendricks,volunteer and a special thank you to my daughter Lauren who was my “mini me” filling in the gaps in everyway. Lauren read the commentary for the video created by Christilot Boylen of J’Equine Sport’s sponsored horse, DeNiro’s Exception, aka Dream . Udo Lange has successfully trained and ridden Dream to the FEI Grand Prix Dressage Level and Intermediare II in Germany. Watch for Udo’s special training tips in the Equine Wellness Magazine.

I personally feel that what J’Equine Sport set out to accomplish as a WHIA conference facilitator was accomplished and as the Ontario Chapter Director, I personally look forward to our first meeting which will be held during the second week of June at the Equine Expo in Burlington. Love and Respect for your Horse

Here is a picture of my horse Topper and me last summer. A few months later he had a massive stroke and died. This was one of the saddest times in my life and I can barely write this without crying. Having to make all the arrangements to deal with a large animal, that I loved, with dignity was not simple. I was lucky enough to be neighbours to Julia Sutor, from Lasting Memories Pet Memorial at The Royal Winter Fair Trade Show, when all this happened. Without getting into too much detail Julia and her company were there for us to provide not only a service but to give us support in difficult situation. Timing is very important in this situation. I know that this is not something we like to talk about but leaving things to the last minute might limit the choices you have. I am glad I had the luck to meet Julia when I did.
I have asked Julia to be a SPEAKER at the upcoming WHIA CONFERENCE and again , she is there for me.

DeNiro's Exception Riding High

De Niro's Exception AKA DREAM has been having a successful show season. It has not been a "fast" journey but a well worth while one. Dream was partnered up with trainer/coach/master/rider Udo Lange of Germany about 3+ years ago. Udo had the arduous job of relaxing and retraining Dream in classical dressage. Our patience and Udo's experience was paramount to Dream's success at the Grand Prix level and as owners and sponsors we realized Udo's talent and passion for the sport from the start.
If there is a lesson to be learned it is that you have to realize that just because someone is great rider that does not necessarily make them a great trainer or coach or nutritionist or business professional. That combination is hard to find but it is out there...

It is harder and sometimes impossible to break a bad habit and retrain a horse. We could have saved ourselves a lot of time and money if we had the right partnership from the start.

As a sponsor or owner you need to be well informed and don't be afraid to question. A partnership is like a marriage and has to work well for everyone.

We run like ghosts from a rabid storm. The trees are green shadows and the grass is liquid glass. The racing wind roars in our ears like a lion singing to its pride, a glorious battle cry TO VICTORY we charge. Time slows as the world envelopes our unity and blankets us with its wild tenderness. Pounding hoof beats are echoes of our hearts. Ba da de dum… the earth sings for our pleasure and dances to the rhythm of freedom. We are insane to attempt to breach sound and become immortal, to be slow forever engrained in our own legend. The wings of speed inspire us to fly, the taste of fear so long forgotten. It is our devoted passion that becomes the miracle of our ability to escape from ourselves, and morph into something entirely new, as one. We rush by the wonders of the earth, her beauty a hurried dream warped by conscious effort. The air is brisk with smells of sweet fragrances, fresh from winters calm. Bright colours of green, golden yellow and blue are blinding to newborn senses. There is a wild peace that surrounds this place, but only in a growing memory of imaginations gift. We keep on running, bad a de dum… We surge forward in a lust for speed that could surely beat the cheetah, a bullet sent strait for its target. This is an experience of joy without thought, blindly charging forward, tuned to the thrumming rhythm of hoof against earth. We are the metronome for heavens symphony, the constant in a changing world. The beat grows old and we die. Shapes around us become solid and we are once again thrown into captivity. Trees stood like soldiers, their leaves a cage for the sun. A river in the distance is now a moat, filled with sharpened rocks. Flowers in the tall grass seem to materialize before us, a warning in vivid colours of red, purple, yellow and pink. We are surprised to find the breeze a gentle whisper to our ears, a soft melody in light monotone of the moment. In limbo there is only the quite desire to be free. We yell to our souls and leap into oblivion once more. Ba da de dumb a da de dum…

Hi Everyone,

THIS IS MY STORY!

First let me say that I am pleasantly surprised and very excited to have received such an overwhelming response from all of you reguarding our breast cancer campaign.

I am sure all of you by now are aware of my company J'Equine Sport, Inc. and the web site jequinesport.com . We finally went "live" summer 2009 only to find out that more was needed to be done to fill in the "gaps" in the equine industry.

The Royal Winter Fair 2009 was a huge success connecting with people and thre premiere ogf the new site. We listened to all of you and we "grew" again adding more categories (20 in total) to our directory. (all with category specific questions to rate helping you to find the right fit).

My next stop was the OEF (Ontario Equestrian Federation) trade show. An enlightening experience in many ways...a close group of exhibitors allowed us to share a more intimate experience...learning from one another (and showing their support)....this is the same weekend I heard news from my sister that she had "CANCER"! My cheery disposition was clouded by this sad news. (The wine at the gala helped...thanks to one of my collegues and friends, John from the Aussie Store). It also felt good to give a $1,000 scholarship to the OEF bursary. That was the same good feeling I wanted to create from something so grim as a cancer diagnosis.

What the heck!!!! Cancer???Breast Cancer!!!! My sister is only 14 months older than me and does not fit the typical "cancer patient" profile. There is no family history....and as we all feel like saying ...she did nothing wrong!

An illness, especially one of a cancer diagnoses affects the whole family (and beyond). I can not make the cancer go away but I can show my support and create something "good" because of it and so our" breast cancer campaign" began.

I could go on and on but I won't...

J'Equine Sport's Breast Cancer Campaign is in full swing!!!

We started the ball rolling by teaming up with EquiSports Massager (thanks Dick Huntzinger), the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and Robert Dover, who was the first to endorse and advertised our campaign drive (thanks again) and now we have our first purchase of the Equine Massager by Melissa Taylor and Lars Peterson owners of Legacy Farms in Wellington, Florida. I texted Melissa a short while ago asking her if she would like to be involved in our campaign either by endorsing it by posting a LINK , sponsoring by cash or coaching value or supporting our cause by buying a pin or massager. Without a moment of hesitation her kindheartedness leaped to the challenge offering to take an active part in all she can. She was put on a horse before she could walk.

She has spent her life trying to master the art of riding.

She has been fortunate enough to train with great masters of riding in Canada, United States and Germany.

Her training in the sport of Dressage has had her living away from home for extended periods of time since she was 13 years old.

One day she hopes to travel to Ireland and ride across the countryside.

She is my daughter!

I am so proud of her accomplishments, her strengths and her maturity.

Bats in the barn?

Well, we did find a bat, or should I say the bat dropped onto someones head from the hay storage room.....was it hibernating or in shock....it didn't move....until it warmed up a bit in the house....see picture....he didn't seem happy. Less than the size of an adult palm. I do not like bats or the idea of bats, vampires, whatever but they do help keep the mosquitos down in the summer

We are a new web site business but J’Equine Sport, Inc. has been around for almost 15 years. Our square ads received an average of 275 clicks for the month of December. The Royal Winter Fair and the Ontario Equestrian Federation Conference showcased a video from Performance Sales International (P.S.I.) of their 2009 auction horses. Their video sparked the interest of many people who learned what a German “auction” is all about. We have had dealings with P.S.I. in the past and are happy to endorse their services.

As of January 1st, 2010, the EBPM annual membership fee is $1,250.00 CND.
You can apply for membership on-line. All references and credentials need to be verified before an application can be processed.

I was pleased to hear that Breyer Horses have gone "pink" and that they will donate $1 to breast cancer funds .... well that is a start.

I have a more hands on approach of helping...

When someone you love is affected with cancer your life changes...you look for ways to understand and to help...J'EQUINE SPORT went pink last November when we heard news of a loved one struggling with the uncertainty of a breast cancer diagnosis....we decided then that we would raise awareness as well as money to sponsor riders of any discipline/breed who have, had or are related to someone with breast cancer.

Any of our items currently found on our on-line store at http://www.jequinesport.com/ are available with the pink/grey horse logo.

Please follow us as we try to make a difference. Breast cancer affects us all..we are not immune by race, color, religion or sex....

J'Equine Sport, Inc. is currently dealing with a couple of quality suppliers that will display the pink J'Equine Sport logo and we plan to offer half of the profits to go to the sponsorship fund.

Hobbies:DanceFigure Skating Equestrian Horse Back Riding Dirt Biking Jacqueline is an inspiration to people that feel having an injury can overcome their dream of achieving success at what they love.. Have you ever been doing something you love then been told you can never do it because of an injury? better yet an injury your were told you had but then turned out you did not have? This past summer I had the pleasure of of working with 20 amazing individuals that left their blood sweat and tears on the dance floor. We put them through hell conditioning every morning and then dancing for 4 hours a day some days even more. I first met Jacqueline at age 12 and mother Lucie owner of jequinesport.com this past summer ready to take on the Touched by The Streets summer dance intensive program. The program was a 3 week dance program that took 20 dancers from all over North America and taught them the foundations of both Dance and Fitness with the help of last years partner Touch International Entertainment. As fitness assessments moved forward and I got to know what the dancers goals were, this one dancer came up to me and said " I really enjoy dance but I find it hard because of a knee issue I was told I have by my doctor and Physiotherapist" I proceeded with the usual questions what do you have?, how long have you had it?, and does it hurt? I programmed for her knee injury which was diagnosed as "Patellar Femoral Syndrome (PFS)" which, is when the knee cap does not move properly with in the grooves of the femur(thigh). As time went on she kept dancing, constantly icing when it got irritated and sat out on the side when it got to the point where it felt unstable which caused her knee to slip out of place every now and then. The exercises I had given her did not seem to be working but actually making it more painful at times. When that happened it sent of some senses that something else is wrong and we stopped the original exercise program. I thought to myself something does not seem right about all this and I decided to probe further into the situation. I thought it might have been something more then PFS and had my own ideas like a muscle imbalance or ACL tear. Seeing as how I am not certified to diagnose a problem I did some researching and decided to send her to a sports physiotherapist at Totem in downtown Toronto. While talking to Lucie(mother) I found out that dance is not the only activity Jacqueline takes part in she is actively involved in Equestrian Horse Riding, Figure Skating, and Dirt Biking all very different activities which all have different demands on the body. As we spent a hour with the Physiotherapist from Totem is was determined that low and behold it was not PFS, it was a muscle imbalance that was causing the issue. Like a bent rim on a bike this example shows just how one small muscle can cause damage to the body. It turned out her Gluteus Medius muscle was weak on her right side which was causing a shift in her hip, causing her other muscles to pull her knee cap(patella) out of place when dancing. I designed a special program for her focusing on body awareness and muscle balance to do during our morning workouts and back at the hotel where we utilized the fitness center to help strengthen the weakened area and condition that area to become stronger. Later she started feeling more stable and feeling that she was not experiencing the same pain that had been bothering her before. In a recent follow up with Jacqueline's mother I was told that she is still following her program that was given to her over the summer using swiss balls (exercise balls) and therabands (elastic tubing). Jacqueline's knee has been great and she is currently figure skating doing bigger tricks and feeling more confident that her body will not fail her in time of need. She also feels less pain when participating in other sports she loves like Dance, Dirt Biking and Dressage Riding. I look forward to working with Jacqueline and her family in the near future as I will be developing a new Equestrian Strength and Conditioning Program for her and many other equestrian riders like herself. This past fall I had the opportunity to talk with many horse owners and equine service providers at the Royal Winter Fair, Ontario Equestrian Federation Conference and the Equine Affaire trade shows. I was also able to travel to Wellington, Florida, Germany and the UK where I met several equestrian riders, owners and professionals. The common feeling among all of them confirmed my original thought, "the equine industry needs a change".
There is a lack of professionalism and accountability with many equine service providers and owners. I have a web site that I created called J'Equine Sport that you can access at www.jequinesport.com There is also a fan page on facebook ...I created it because of the "if I knew then what I know now" philosophy...
I thought that the longer I owned horses or that when I advanced to the higher level of competition that the equine industry would be more professional (ethical) it was not. I learned (little secrets) from others. These "secrets" should be shared so that bad experiences are not repeated. We as consumers should share our experiences....I want to highlight the good and I believe that the not so good equine service providers whether they are coaches, barn managers, farriers, horse traders, etc will have to change to keep up to the consumers need ....
I could have saved myself a lot of emotional and financial pain...I want the good things to be shared ...so therefore J'Equine Sport.COM was created.
I call it the Consumers Choice" a free membership that allows anyone to add any type of equine service to the directory and rate it. The questions are category specific and are geared towards establishing the quality of professionalism as well as helping the consumer to find the "right fit" for them.

I am officially a blogger!
This is a new experience for me. I suppose I should treat blogging the same as I would "Keeping a Journal".
It's funny that I should be blogging (ooo I love to say that) since I am a rather private person...so I will write some things in code.
Perhaps I feel the need to blog (or vent) since recent events have had an overwhelming impact on my life. What are the sayings to make one feel better, oh ya, "if life hands you a lemon, make lemonade" or "well at least you have your health" or "things will be better in the morning" or ....
I think it's O.K. to feel sad or cry but i don't like to feel "out of control"...when tragedy strikes there is this emotional rollercoaster of uncontrolable outbursts....I try to avoid those. I am very protective of the ones I love.....and it is very difficult not have have control over outcome.
